A Sticky Situation

2011-05-27 11:59 am

My friend and I run a small, or growing, music website which is our real passion, but it makes no money as of yet and we survive on money from part time jobs we don't enjoy in the slightest.

A couple of weeks ago we needed to pay to renew and upgrade our hosting service for the next year, and was fast approaching the end of my renewal period where they would end up pulling the plug on the whole site.

We really couldn't afford for the site to go down, but we couldn't afford the payment, so we took out one of the small loans I blogged about recently, and then paid it back as soon as we both got paid from our part time jobs. It didn't cost too much in interest and really got us out of our problem, so when you're desperate they really are worthwhile.

Bargain of a loan

2011-02-07 12:10 am

So this one is not really a bargain or a discount as per say although in many ways it is also all of these things. Basically I have come across a loan company called Wonga , which – before you all start moaning and groaning away- is not like your average loan company. It’s a really helpful one. For starters it is very easy to use and almost anybody can get a loan on this site, but also, the interest rates are what makes this special. Instead of working on a shockingly high and unreasonable percentage like most banks it works on what I would call ‘mates’ rates, because they are the type of additions that we would add if we were in charge. Which in many ways we kind of are.
Anyway, don’t knock it until you have tried it or at least investigated.

THE ALTERNATIVE TO THE TUBE STRIKES

2010-09-25 6:15 pm

When the tube strike was looming I decided to take action beforehand. Instead of waiting hours for a bus, or walking miles to work, I decided to look to buy a bike.
I looked up used bicycles for sale and managed to find loads which were in good condition and at a reasonable price.
The realisation of waking up and not having a nightmare of a journey cheered me up in the morning of the strikes. I managed to hop on my bike and enjoy (for once) the journey to work – hassle free!
I have now opted to cycle into work a lot more. I can’t promise I will be doing it everyday in the winter when it is cold and icy, but I will be at the moment. And as a bonus it will be keeping me fit and healthy!
